Types Of Contact Lenses Available With Sarode Opticals
In the 1970's, when soft lenses were introduced to the world, the "hard lens" market all but dried up! These "hard lens" materials were just that....hard! They were made of a plastic material, PMMA, poly-methyl-methacrilate. Because of the initial discomfort and problems with corneal health this material easily gave way to the soft lens.
SOFT CONTACT LENSES
Soft contact lenses are made of soft, flexible plastics that allow oxygen to pass through to the cornea. Soft contact lenses may be easier to adjust to and are more comfortable.
There are various types of Soft Contact Lenses available with us. They are further bifurcated as below:
COSMETIC / COLOUR CONTACT LENSES
A cosmetic contact lens is designed to change the appearance of the eye. These lenses may also correct refractive error. Cosmetic / Colour Lenses can change the colour of dark eyes. Colours include Blue, Gray, Green, Pure Hazel, True Sapphire, Amethyst, Turquoise and Brown, for a subtle, natural change. Cosmetic / Colour Contact Lenses can have more direct medical applications. For example, some lenses may restore the appearance and, to some extent the function, of a damaged or missing iris.
Toric / Prosthetic Contact Lenses
Toric contact lenses correct for astigmatism issues that arise from a different curvature of the cornea or lens in your eye (referred to as regular astigmatism, corneal astigmatism or lenticular astigmatism). The ability for toric contact lenses to provide different refractive powers on the vertical and horizontal orientations addresses this specific peculiarity that causes astigmatism.
Prosthetic contact lenses mask flaws and improve the appearance of an eye disfigured from a birth defect, trauma, or eye disease. If certain structures of the injured or disfigured eye also fail to function properly, special prosthetic lenses can be designed to block excess light from reaching the back of the eye to reduce glare and increase comfort.
Rose K Contact Lenses
Rose K lens improve the quality of life of keratoconus patients. Keratoconus is a disorder of the anterior surface of the eye (the cornea). In simple terms, the cornea becomes thinner causing it to bulge from its normal round shape to a cone shape. This bulging interferes with a person's vision and can severely affect the way they see the world, making simple tasks like reading, watching TV or driving very difficult.
The Rose K lens has a number of features that make it ideal for keratoconus and is internationally recognised as the leading lens for the treatment of keratoconus. The lenses are designed using complex computer models and manufactured on special computerized lathes. The complex geometry of Rose K lenses takes into account the conical shape of the cornea in all stages of the condition. Lenses can be customised to suit each eye and can correct the myopia and astigmatism associated with the condition. Rose K lenses allow the cornea to 'breathe' oxygen directly through the lens material providing excellent health to the eye. The lenses are easy to insert, remove and clean.
